According to Wikipedia, Management Information System (MIS) is “an information system used for decision-making, and for the coordination, control, analysis, and visualization of information in an organization.” A MIS worker understands the nature of the relationship among employees, clients, business and the role of technology to the operation and growth of any organization.
Unlike Business Data Analyst, MIS focuses more on real-life issues among people in the era of technology-driven world. Most of their tasks are sharing half of the managerial skills and the half of the use of analytical softwares to compile data, conduct research, make business decisions and evaluate solutions from the final plan.
There is no denying the fact that technology development has an enormous impact on every aspect of our daily lives and on all departments of enterprises. From local companies to global corporations, they are relying heavily on the management of information systems and services to make effective organizational processes and work strategies. With the rising trend in demand for cyber data and information optimization in the era of Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT), businesses and organizations are calling for experts in computer-delivered business management.
Often, a Management Information System program is combined of the core knowledge and skills of computer sciences and information system programming, applying them in the field of financial and business management. The main challenge for MIS workers is to meet the needs and wants of the users from the business/organization and the understanding of the technology system serving the group or the project.
